Giving Gifts

Giving gifts is recommended in Islaam as a means of strengthening brotherhood ties among the Muslims. It is one of the acts that Prophet Muhammad SallAllaahu 3Alayhi wa sallam recommended us-Muslims to do.

The Prophet SallAllaahu 3Alayhi wa sallam said: “Exchange gifts, you will love one another.” (1)

قال عليه الصلاة والسلام ( تصافحوا يذهب الغل وتهادوا تحابوا وتذهب الشحناء ) رواه مالك في الموطأ / 1413

The Prophet SallAllaahu 3Alayhi wa sallam said: “Shake hands, for this will dispel rancor, and exchange gifts and love one another, for this will dispel hatred.”(2)

Gifts are an expression of love and friendship and the giver will have a reward.

It is mustahabb [preferable] for the one who is given a gift to respond by giving something similar or better, because the Prophet SallAllaahu 3Alayhi wa sallam said: “Whoever does you a favour, then respond in kind, and if you cannot find anything to give him, then make du3aa’ for him (and keep doing so) until you think that you have done enough.” (3)

It was narrated that 3Aa’ishah radi Allaahu 3Anha said: “The Messenger of Allaah SallAllaahu 3Alayhi wa sallam would accept gifts and reciprocate for them. (4)

Here are some gifts for you….
