Ruling on Telling Lies that Do not Harm Anyone

Bismillah-Salaam1

The Permanent Committee for Scholarly Research and Ifta’ was asked a question:

Q. What is the ruling on Telling lies that do not harm anyone?

They replied:

Lying is absolutely Haraam (prohibited) except in the cases that are excluded by Shari3ah (Islaamic law), which does not include what is mentioned in the question.

This prohibition is based on the general meaning of evidence, such as Allaah’s Statement:

يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا اتَّقُوا اللَّهَ وَكُونُوا مَعَ الصَّادِقِينَ

“O you who believe! Be afraid of Allaah, and be with those who are true (in words and deeds)”(1)

Moreover, it is related on the authority of 3Abdullaah ibn Mas3ood radi Allaahu 3Anhu that the Messenger of Allaah SallAllaahu 3Alahy wa sallam said:

Adhere to telling the truth, for telling the truth leads to righteousness and righteousness leads to Jannah (Paradise). A person will keep on speaking the truth and seek to speak the truth until they are recorded with Allaah as a truth-speaker.

Beware of lying! For lying leads to immorality and immorality leads to Hellfire. A person will keep on telling lies and seek to tell lies until they are recorded with Allaah as a liar.” (2)

It is also narrated that 3Abdullaah ibn Mas3ood radi Allaahu 3Anhu said: “Telling lies is wrong whether in earnest or in jest, read if you wish: “O you who believe! Be afraid of Allaah, and be with those who are true (in words and deeds).”  He read the Aayah (Qur’aanic verse) and said:

فهل تجدون لأحد فيه رخصة؟
“Do you find any Rukhsah (concession) allowing anyone to tell a lie?” (3)

Virtues of Fasting 3 Days of Every Month

besm4Virtues of Fasting 3 Days of Every Month:

It is Mustahabb to fast three days each month. There are many ahadeeth, concerning the virtues of fasting 3 days, every month.

Advice of the Prophet:

It was narrated that Abu Hurayrah radi-Allaahu 3Anhu said: “My close friend (the Prophet SallAllaahu 3Alayhi wa Sallam) advised me to do three things which I will not give up until I die: fasting three days of each month, praying Duhaa and going to sleep after Witr”. (1)

Its like Fasting For a life-Time:

3Abd-Allaah ibn 3Amr ibn al-3Aaas Radi-Allaahu 3Anhu said: The Messenger of Allaah SallAllaahu 3Alayhi wa Sallam said to me:

“It is sufficient for you to fast three days every month, because for every good deed you will have (the reward of) ten like it, so that will be like fasting for a lifetime”. (2)

Which Days of the Month To Fast:

Mu3aadhah al-3Adawiyyah asked 3Aa’ishah, the wife of the Prophet SallAllaahu 3Alayhi wa Sallam, “Did the Messenger of Allaah sallAllaahu 3Alayhi wa Sallam fast three days of every month?”

She said, “Yes.”

She said to her: “Which days of the month did he fast?”

She said, “He did not mind which days of the month he would fast.” (3)

Fasting Ayyaam Al-Beed:

Beed  is the plural of Abyad which means white. Three days of 13, 14 and 15 of lunar month are called “Al-Ayyaam-ul-Beed” for the reason that their nights are bright because of the moonlight. The moon begins to diminish gradually after these days.

Jareer ibn 3Abd-Allaah radi-Allaahu 3Anhu said that, the Prophet SallAllaahu 3Alayhi wa Sallam said: “Fasting three days of each month is fasting for a lifetime, and Ayyaam al-Beed are the thirteenth, fourteenth and fifteenth.” (4)

Abu Dharr radi-Allaahu 3Anhu said: The Messenger of Allaah SallAllaahu 3Alayhi wa Sallam said to me: “If you fast any part of the month, then fast the thirteenth, fourteenth and fifteenth.” (5)

Fasting the 3 Fast Consecutively or Separately:

Shaykh 3Uthaymeen (may Allaah have mercy on him) was asked:

It was narrated in the hadeeth that the Prophet SallAllaahu 3Alayhi wa Sallam advised Abu Hurayrah to fast three days of each month. When should these fasts be observed, and should they be one after the other?

He replied:

It is permissible to fast these days one after the other or separately, and they may be at the beginning of the month, or in the middle, or at the end. The matter is braod in scope, praise be to Allaah, because the Messenger of Allaah SallAllaahu 3Alayhi wa Sallam did not state any specific days.

3Aa’ishah radi Allaahu 3Anha was asked: “The Messenger of Allaah SallAllaahu 3Alayhi wa Sallam fast three days of each month? She said: Yes.

It was asked: In which part of the month did he fast? She said: He would not bother in which part of the month he would fast.

But the 13th, 14th & 15th are better, because these are Al–Ayyaam al-Beed. (6)

Bismillah1Allaah says in the Qu’raan:

مَا يَلْفِظُ مِنْ قَوْلٍ إِلَّا لَدَيْهِ رَقِيبٌ عَتِيدٌ

(interpretation of the meaning):

“Man does not utter any word except that with him is an observer prepared [to record].” (1)

The Prophet SallAllaahu 3Alayhi wa Sallam said:

I guarantee a house in Jannah for one who gives up arguing, even if he is in the right; and I guarantee a home in the middle of Jannah for one who abandons lying even for the sake of fun; and I guarantee a house in the highest part of Jannah for one who has good manners.” (2)

The Prophet SallAllaahu 3Alayhi wa Sallam said:

Woe to the person who lies in his talking to make people laugh, woe to him, woe to him”. (3)

3Abd al-Rahmaan ibn Abi Laylaa said: “The companions of the Messenger of Allaah sallAllaahu 3Alayhi wa sallam told us that they were travelling with the Messenger of Allaah sallAllaahu 3Alayhi wa sallam. A man among them fell asleep and some of them went and took his arrows.

When the man woke up, he got alarmed (because his arrows were missing) and the people laughed. The Prophet sallAllaahu 3Alayhi wa sallam said, “What are you laughing at?”

They said, “Nothing, except that we took the arrows and he got alarmed.”

The Messenger of Allaah sallAllaahu 3Alayhi wa sallam said:

It is not permissible for a Muslim to frighten another Muslim.” (4)

It is narrated by 3Abdullaah ibn as-Saa’ib ibn Yazeed radi-Allaahu 3Anhu that Messenger of Allaah SallAllaahu 3Alayhi wa Sallam said:

None of you should take the property of his brother in amusement (i.e. jest), nor in earnest. If anyone takes the staff of his brother, he should return it.” (5)

Shaykh Albaanee was asked: Is there a difference between intentionally lying and jokingly lying? And is it permissible for a person to lie jokingly?

Response: No, it is not permissible.

Question: “(So) all of it is judged (regarded) the same?”

Response: Yes (it is) haraam. The Messenger of Allaah (sallAllaahu 3Alayhi wa sallam) only spoke the truth. (6)

Fajr Reminders

Bismillaah - CopyFajr 1

A timely reminder inshaa’Allaah as Fajr is very early these days…

Want to Enter Jannah:

A beautiful hadeeth about the importance of Fajr prayer.

“Whoever prays al-Bardayn will enter Paradise.” (1)

Al-Bardayn are Fajr and 3Asr.

Commentary: It is a must for every Muslim to offer every Salaat regularly but there are some prayers (Salaat) which cannot be performed punctually unless one takes special care of them. This is the reason some additional merits have been mentioned in this Hadeeth so that people exercise extra effort for performing them. Of these two is the Fajr prayer, the performance of which is more difficult than the other prayers because it occurs at a time of rest and deep sleep.

How the angels Find you?

Prophet sallAllaahu 3Alayhi wa sallam said:

“Angels come to you in shifts by night and by day. They meet at salah al-Fajr and salah al-3Asr, then those who had stayed with you at night ascend, and are asked by the One Who knows better than they: “How did you find My servants?”

They say, “We left them when they were praying, and we came to them when they were praying”.” (2)

It is narrated by Jarir bin 3Abdullah: “We were in the company of the Prophet sallAllaahu 3Alayhi wa sallam on a fourteenth night (of the lunar month), and he looked at the (full) moon and said:

“You will see your Lord as you see this moon, and you will have no trouble in looking at Him. So, whoever can, should not miss the offering of prayers before sunrise (Fajr prayer) and before sunset (3Asr prayer).” (3)

bardayn

Seriousness of Missing Salaat al-Fajr:

روى مسلم (657) عن جندب بن عبدالله رضي الله عنه قال : قال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم :  مَن صَلَّى الصُّبحَ فَهُوَ فِي ذِمَّةِ اللَّهِ ، فَلا يَطلُبَنَّكُمُ اللَّهُ مِن ذِمَّتِهِ بِشَيْءٍ فَيُدرِكَهُ فَيَكُبَّهُ فِي نَارِ جَهَنَّمَ

Prophet sallAllaahu 3Alayhi wa sallam said: “Whoever prays fajr is under the protection of Allaah. Do not put yourselves in a situation where Allaah has to call you to account for your negligence, because whoever finds himself in this situation will be sorted out and then thrown on his face in the Fire of Hell.” (4)

hold on salah

Shaykh Ibn 3Uthaymeen may Allaah have mercy on him said in Sharh Riyaadh al-Saaliheen (1/591):

“This indicates that it is obligatory to respect the Muslims who affirm their Islam by praying Fajr, because no one offers Fajr prayer but a believer. And it is not permissible for anyone to transgress against them”. (5)

This hadeeth is also reported in Tabaraani::

“Whoever prays fajr is under the protection of Allaah. Do not put yourselves in a situation where Allaah has to call you to account for your negligence.” (6)

Tips for waking up for Fajr:

  • To be taahir(clean) & saying the adhkaar before sleeping

Sins That You Do In Private

The sins that you do in private kills the heart more than the sins that you do in public, because it means that you value the eyes of the people more than you value the sight of Allaah.

You are more worried about people catching you sinning than Allaah seeing you.”

Ibn Qudaamah

“O people! I am a new day…”

“Every day the sun rises it calls upon us:

“O people! I am a new day;

I am an observer of your actions.

Take advantage of me for I will not return until the Day of Judgment.

O son of Adam, you are nothing but a few breaths.

Once one breath goes out, part of you goes with it.

In the same way that part of you has gone, soon all of you will go.

[Hasan al-Basri]
